We have owned Weimaraners since 1974, John purchased his first Weimaraner from Pamela Nelson - Dandenong, Victoria. "Ben" was a great puppy from the famous "Ch. Greymar Noble Monarch". Unfortunately Ben wandered off when John was at work and was run over by car. Within a few months he had found another lovely bitch by the same sire, she became the foundation bitch of his "Silvahunter" prefix. "Cindy" went on to gain her show title, plus obedience and tracking titles, she was competitive in retrieving trials, winning and placing in Novice and Restricted trials. She also competited in fields trials. When John bought his next male "Zac" in 1975 from Judy & Bert Smith in Mildura, his life had changed completely. Here was a very active, demanding & talented dog that changed the way the retrieving fraternity viewed Weimaraners in Victoria, this dog actually had die hard labrador retrieving judges paying him compliments. Liz took over handling Cindy in 1976 as John was fast becoming a dedicated retrieving trialler.

Whilst living at Aspendale we were able to put a lot of time into the dogs, travelling interstate to trials and shows, gaining more dogs along the way. John's brother, Rob, had several Silvahunter weimaraners. Liz's sister Sue with her German Shorthaired Pointers became a member of "Silvahunter" in the late 70's and is still a partner today. By the early 80's John had become a Retrieving Trial judge, his time for training & trialling now cut back with Judging commitments.

In 1986 Liz and John realized that Aspendale was becoming far too suburban with council restrictions on numbers of dogs owned per property being enforced, so instead of a "sea change" (they lived beach side) they had a "tree change" and moved to 2.5 acres in Langwarrin. 1987 saw the arrival of a two legged Silvahunter litter - "Nicholas" who had no choice but to grow up loving and caring for dogs. By the time Nic was 10 he had his own dog - a yellow Labrador bred by Wayne & Jill (McMasters) Poholke from the well renowned Kadnook Kennels. Prior to this Nic could be seen following the Late Jack Montasell everywhere at retrieving trials and helping with his yellow girls. Nic's love of dogs has also brought a rescue dog into our kennel, the amazing working border collie "Hoosh".

By the early 1990's Liz had gained her show judges licence for Group 3 - the Gundog Group in Australia (Sporting Group elsewhere). In December, 2014 Liz passed her Group 5 show judges licence - the Working Dog Group (Herding elsewhere). She is currently a trainee also for Groups 4 & 7 - and is able to judge open shows for those groups. Her focus at present is on the Hound Group. Liz also is focused in tracking and tracking search. Liz is also a member of the "Classic Show Committee" . The past decade or so has seen Liz play a more major role in dog actitivities as John had to give up judging in order to chaffeur Nic around to his kayaking competitions. John now spends more time these days playing with boats and looking after the dogs at home whilst Liz is away at work. With so much going on, it has been easier in the past 10 years to purchase our dogs and our Weimaraners are predominantly now from "Waldwiese" Kennels in South Australia. Our latest girl "Prada" was bred in New Zealand under the "Waldwieze" prefix of Lois Richter, Claire Brown and Julie Rumsey.

Keep an eye on our website as I am sure it will be updating regularly.
